About
This year's Roseburg-Sutherlin Christmas Bird Count (CBC) will be on Saturday, December 16, 2023. We're a bit short on counters so are looking for a few more people who are familiar with most birds in our area to help with the count. The way it works is you are assigned a particular area within the count circle, given a tally sheet, and you go count all the birds you can find in that area. It can be helpful to bring a friend along to do the tallying for you. At the end of the day, you’re invited to the gathering at the Roseburg Public Library.

What is the Christmas Bird Count?
The Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is an annual event in December during which individuals in communities all over the United States spend one day counting bird species within a defined area. At one point in our history, it was a day when hunters went out and shot as many birds and other animals as they could! Then some folks (members of the newly formed Audubon Society) thought to change the tradition to a bird census instead of a bird kill.
