With spring’s arrival bringing longer days and warmer weather, it’s an ideal time to step outside, breathe in the fresh air, and bask in the sunshine, depending on the unpredictable spring weather. Embrace the season’s weather and embark on an adventure to discover all it has to offer! Roseburg has some of the best golf and hiking in Southern Oregon.

Golf

The Roseburg area boasts some exceptional golf courses that will captivate and test even the most seasoned golfers. Bar Run, the newest addition to the town’s golfing scene, was meticulously designed by Dan Hixson, the mastermind behind Bandon Crossings. Nestled alongside the picturesque South Umpqua River, Bar Run’s design was deeply influenced by its surroundings. In recognition of its exceptional quality, Bar Run was awarded the prestigious Bronze Medal in the Best Public Courses category.

In addition to Bar Run, the Roseburg area offers three other public golf courses that provide affordable opportunities for golfers of all skill levels. Stewart Park’s nine-hole course, Myrtle Creek, and Sutherlin courses are all worth considering for an enjoyable afternoon of golfing.

Disc Golf

Roseburg is home to two highly regarded disc golf courses: Stewart Park (also known as Riverside Park) and Whistler’s Bend. Both courses are renowned for their challenging layouts, with most holes nestled amidst dense oak groves. Notably, Whistler’s Bend Disc Golf Course also includes several holes along the river, which poses a significant risk of losing foul discs thanks to the riverbank cliffs.

Hiking

Spring is an ideal time for hiking. The weather is warmer, the grass is lush, and wildflowers are in full bloom. Take a scenic drive up North Bank Road and embark on a scenic hike at the North Bank Habitat Area. The 7.4-mile loop takes you through oak savannas, cedar forests, and along the ridgeline of rolling green hills.

It’s also a great time to hike the lower sections of the North Umpqua Trail. Although there are 11 different sections of the trail, they all follow the North Umpqua River from Swiftwater Park to the headwaters, high in the Cascade Mountains. For current information to make sure your trail isn’t closed for maintenance, check the Forest Service website.

Cycling/Mountain Biking

With the warmer and drier weather moving in, it’s an ideal time to hit the trails on your mountain bike, road bike, or even your motorcycle. Cooper Creek Reservoir near Sutherlin offers a fantastic looped trail around the reservoir for mountain biking enthusiasts. The North Umpqua Trail and Sunshine Park are also excellent destinations for mountain biking adventures.

No matter what sort of outdoor excursions you are into, the Roseburg area is the ideal hub to start those adventures. If you’re curious about other outdoor activities in the area, browse the outdoor section of the Experience Roseburg website.
