Outdoor Activities

Roseburg is the gateway to everything outdoors in Southern Oregon. Here you will find hiking, camping, fishing, fly fishing, rock climbing, boating, kayaking, tubing, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, cycling, dirt biking, off-roading, skiing, cross-country skiing, foraging, birding, and sightseeing; there is truly something for everyone.

The North Umpqua River provides boundless opportunities for outdoor recreation. Hot summer days are marked by the tradition of floating or kayaking from Amacher Park to River Forks Park. Grab your raft and life vest and plan to make an afternoon out of your river adventure. For fly fishermen, the North Umpqua River is a dream come true, boasting an impressive 33.8 miles of fly fishing-only waters.

Head east along Highway 138 past Glide and follow the North Umpqua River to the Umpqua National Forest, an outdoor wonderland filled with miles of hiking trails, backroads, and waterfalls. Known as the “Highway of Waterfalls,” Highway 138 offers the opportunity to witness over 15 waterfalls in a single day, depending on how fast you hike.

Beyond the river and the forest, there is plenty of outdoor fun to be had around town. If you are into Golf try Stewart Park Golf Course or the newly opened Bar Run. Or if you are into disc golf both River Front Park and Whistler’s Bend are challenging courses that will test even professional disc golfers.

No matter what interests you have, there is plenty of outdoor fun to discover. For detailed maps and the most current information about public land access, visit both the Bureau of Land Management and the Forest Service websites or offices.
