Genealogical Society of Douglas County

About

The Society’s library is housed at the Courthouse in Room 105B and is best accessed from the side entrance on Main Street. The telephone number is 541-440-6178. GSDC has 5,500+ titles on their shelves, including books, a vertical file on Douglas County families; a large obituary collection for Douglas County mainly from 1980 to current (there are some older ones); and connection to the internet with access to subscription and search sites on the computers. Our research computers have a genealogy data base containing 80,000+ Douglas County related names.

Our newsletter was published six times a year and the Douglas County Pioneer was published four times a year. The newsletter has Society news and research tips. The Douglas County Pioneer is a publication related to the families of Douglas County. However, we are in need of editors for these publications.

Informative programs are offered four times a year and are open to the public. The programs are held in January, April, July and October. No programs are planned for 2022 at this time.

Members have extracted records from the Douglas County Archives and these are part of the genealogical collection. Douglas County related publications are also offered for sale. Several projects are ongoing.

The library is normally open from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm Wednesday through Friday and closed on Monday and Tuesday and all holidays observed by Douglas County. Appointments can be made to access the library at other times. There are experienced Librarians on duty to help with your research. The Library is staffed entirely by volunteers.

We would love to have your help with the Library and extraction projects. Training is provided.
